HOLE 1
The opening fairway is a dogleg right to a blind landing area, leaving an approach shot to a large green protected by front bunkers left and right. Note the yellow aiming flag in the middle of the fairway. Accuracy is a premium on this hole with out of bounds to the left and a severe drop behind the green.

HOLE 3
A large tree in the middle of the uphill fairway makes a great target off the tee. Aggressive players might go left to shorten the hole, leaving a second shot that could flirt with out of bounds on the slight dogleg left. A generous lay-up area leaves a short iron shot into a downhill green. This hole can be reached in two for the longer hitters but not without risk as the green is protected by front and side bunkers and out of bounds long.

HOLE 4
This dogleg right fairway requires a straight or left-to-right tee shot to avoid the large tree taunting the right side of the tee box. Bunkers protect the right and left tee-shot landing areas, with out of bounds on both sides, too. Approach shots below the hole and left will give you the best chance at par as a bunker protects the front right of the green with out of bounds long.

HOLE 5
Out of bounds on both sides and bunkers left protect this straight-away, tree lined fairway. An accurate tee shot can provide an opportunity for longer hitters to go for the green in two; beware, however, of the cathedral bunkers left. Going long right on your approaching lay-up shot may send your ball through the fairway into a bunker 60 yards short of the green. A lay-up shot to around 100 yards leaves an uphill approach to a deep green with fronting bunkers left and right. Do your best to avoid three putts on this tricky green.

HOLE 6
Accuracy and patience are rewarded on this challenging dogleg-left, downhill then uphill hole that plays longer than it appears. To avoid out of bounds on both sides, keep your tee shot between the bunkers protecting the right and left of the fairway. You can carry the left bunker for a shorter approach shot, but going too far risks landing in the lake fronting the large green that slopes back to front. Stay below the hole to avoid three putts.

HOLE 7
With a creek running left of the fairway and a grassy hillside to the right, an accurate tee shot is a must on this hole. A large, end-of-fairway tree protects the left side of the green, so be sure to approach from the right side. The creek curves to the right in front of the relatively flat green with out of bounds left and long.

A beautiful dry stone fence defines out of bounds to the right and behind the green. A generous landing area in front of the green allows for a straight forward chip or pitch shot but stay away from the large bunker at the left side of the green.

This testy par 4 has out of bounds on both sides. The generous fairway slopes right to left with a bunker on the right hand side. At its end, the fairway veers slightly right to an elevated green protected by a bunker front left. Birdies are few on this tough-to-read green.

HOLE 10
This scenic par 3, our signature hole and one of the most majestic golf holes in Kentucky, features an 80-foot drop in elevation from tee to green, making it play shorter than advertised. Club selection can be interesting due to the depth of the green, making for at least a two-club difference depending on pin position. A creek flows in front of the green while large bunkers protect both right and left.

Tee-shot accuracy is rewarded on this straight fairway protected by a bunker left and a waste area all the way down the right. Long and left is a no-no due to the large trees and the creek protecting the green. Bunkers on both sides of the green and out of bounds long demand a solid shot into the green.

Long hitters might be tempted to cut the dogleg-left corner but beware the fairway bunker and trees. A waste area to the right and out of bounds on both sides can harass wayward tee shots. Avoid the bunker to the right on your approach shot to give yourself the best chance at par on this relatively flat green.

Straight down the middle-right is where you want your drive to land on this tempting dogleg-left fairway protected left by out of bounds and a low waste area and gnarly rough. Middle right leaves the best angle for your approach shot, given the tall trees guarding a direct shot to the green from the left side. Lay-up shots running through the fairway may catch a bunker in the 70-yard vicinity. Note the pair of bunkers guarding the left and middle portions of the green. The fairway’s last 100 yards is steeply uphill creating a longer hole than the yardage indicates. Take care to stay below the pin, however, to avoid three putts.

HOLE 18
The Frankfort Country Club’s closing hole will test your nerves and shot-making ability. The uphill and steeply sloping left-to-right fairway is protected by out of bounds to the left and a lateral water hazard to the right. Trees line both sides of the hole. At fairway’s end, overhanging trees challenge approach shots to the green from the left and a bunker menaces wayward shots on the right. On the green, small undulations make for interesting putting. This hole always comes up in post-round conversation at the 19th Hole Grill.
